POSTED  Feb. 25, 2009 10 p.m.

Dahlonega venue Prospector Hall, which has been closed for a few months, is open for business this weekend with a concert featuring Chris McDaniel and headliners Arbor Avenue.

The show, at 8 p.m. Saturday, is all ages. Admission is $6.

Local guitarist Jeremy Satterfield, a member of Arbor Avenue, said the group’s sound is a mixture of country and rock.

"It’s actually what we call modern country rock," he said. "I have a few new members in the band and we’ve been mixing it up a lot."

Satterfield, who lives in Dahlonega, said it’s been about four years since he’s played in town. So, Saturday’s show will be a chance for family and friends to catch up on what he and the band have been practicing before they head out on tour.

"I think this weekend it should be a real mixed crowd for both types of music," he said. "We’re just going to go out and give it everything we’ve been practicing."

New Coffee House Schedules Premier Performance for May 10, 2008
written by Carolynn Williams

The new coffee house organized to fill the void left by the departure of the Strings ‘n Things coffee house from the local music scene now not only has a name, but also, a musical lineup for the premier performance. The first Jam N' Java at Prospector’s Hall is set for 7PM on May 10, at Prospector’s Hall on Jim Pruitt Road in Dahlonega. Palmerlane of Cleveland, GA; Uncle Everett of Dawsonville, GA; and Nowhere America from Gainesville, GA, are the three groups that will be performing that night. Carolynn Williams, spokesman for Jam N' Java, says that of the three, Uncle Everett and Nowhere America are the most like the fare offered by Strings ‘n Things. Her prediction is that Uncle Everett’s songs like the hilarious, Repo Man, will be likely to bring smiles to the faces of those who attend. She goes on to say that Nowhere America is a nice counterpart to the lively, happy, sounds of Uncle Everett with their soft, thoughtful, songs reminiscent of Bob Dylan to whom the group acknowledges an inspirational debt. The Palmerlane trio bill themselves as Acoustic Soul, but the Prospector Hall website also bills them as Acoustic Bluegrass, and Jam N' Java is pleased to have them because they round out the musical offering so well. Tickets will be $5.00 for an evening at the coffee house that promises a chance to hear three talented groups of performers in a relaxed atmosphere. Refreshments will be available.
